Sliding Barn Door
Q: We have a dressing room that is part of our Ultrasound room that uses accordion doors and they want us to install the sliding barn door type door on the dressing room. My question is do we have to use a standard hospital type 20 door for the dressing room or can it be a hollow core wood door? The room is not sprinkled.
A: A hollow-core wood door would be permitted for a small room, such as a dressing room as long as the door serves a room with an occupant load less than 10 people (and what dressing room would have an occupant load serving 10 or more people? Strange!). If the door is a corridor door, then it would have to latch and resist the passage of smoke. For a non-corridor door, the door would not have to resist the passage of smoke [Section 7.2.1.4.1(4)(c) of the 2012 LSC].
What you describe seems okay.
