Fire Door Caulk

Q: Can I use a fire caulk or putty to repair holes and scratches to our fire-rated doors?

A: Only if it is UL listed for use on a fire-rated door assembly. Most fire-caulk fire-stop materials are not UL listed for use on a fire-rated door assembly; however, there is a new (within the past few years) fire-caulk material approved by UL and is listed for use on fire-door assemblies. Fire Door Solutions out of Stillwell, KS, has developed such a product and it is UL listed; they call it “Fire Door Caulk”.
